Pharrell Williams ‘happy’ with chart glory

Pharrell Williams saw out 2013 with his third UK number one single of the year, Happy, knocking X Factor winner Sam Bailey into second place.
The 40-year-old previously topped the charts on Daft Punk’s Get Lucky and Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines, with writing credits on both.
Happy, a feel-good pop song featured in the hit animation film Despicable Me 2, and comes with a 24 hour-long video.
It unseated last week’s number one by X Factor star Sam Bailey.
Skyscraper switches places with Williams’ hit to take second place in this week’s countdown.
The chart placing rounds off a successful comeback for Williams, as Blurred Lines and Get Lucky were named the two best-selling singles of 2013 at the beginning of this month.
Originally one half of the production duo, The Neptunes, Williams has received seven Grammy nominations including producer of the year (non-classical), two nominations for record of the year for Get Lucky and Blurred Lines and two album of the year nominations for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar.
He is expected to release a second solo album early next year – a follow-up to his 2006 debut In My Mind.
Swedish DJ Avicii ‘s Hey Brother, Jason Derulo’s Trumpets and The Monster by Eminem and Rihanna completed the top five in this week’s singles chart.
The only new entry is Beyonce’s Drunk in Love, featuring her husband Jay Z, which debuted at number 29.
In the albums chart Robbie Williams’ Swings Both Ways kept former bandmate Gary Barlow’s Since I Saw You Last, at bay to retain the number one crown.
Last month, Williams’ big band effort become the UK’s 1,000th number one album.
One Direction fell one place to number three, with Midnight Memories, with Beyonce’s self-titled album in fourth place, just ahead of Olly Murs’ Right Place, Right Time.
