Little Mix to record Cameo’s Word Up as Sport Relief song

Written by on 24th January 2014

Former X Factor winners Little Mix are recording this year’s Sport Relief single.

The girl group posed in running gear to announce they were helping the fundraising efforts by releasing a cover of Cameo’s 1986 single, Word Up.

The single, which has also been a hit for Gun and Spice Girl Mel B, will be released as a download on 16 March.

“We’ve seen people push themselves and do incredible things for Sport Relief,” said Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards.

“It’s a dream come true to be releasing the official single this year.”

Sport Relief takes place from 21 to 23 March, with members of the public invited to raise money by running, swimming or cycling in the Sport Relief Games.

The charity event is held every two years and supports vulnerable people in the UK and abroad.

Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton, singer Michael Ball and actress Samantha Bond are among the celebrities who have been competing in The Great Sport Relief Bake Off this month for the charity.

Little Mix, who are made up of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, won the X Factor in 2011.

The group have sold more than four million albums worldwide and their first record, DNA, became the highest-charting debut album by a UK girl group in America last year.
